My Favorite Albums of the Year - 2022
For me, 2022 was a year of great musical discovery both as a listener and as an artist. I spent my time as a listener actively seeking out new artists, exploring music from different places around the world, cherishing releases from fellow Colorado locals and friends, and thinking deeply about the music that resonated the most with me. As an artist, I made strides in self-confidence, honed in on the music that is important to me, and felt myself open up expressively in refreshing ways.
One thing I noticed this year was that I wasn't as grabbed by full albums in 2022 as I have been in years past. I found myself loving a few tracks from a lot of albums, and not as many albums straight through. It's hard to say why this was - maybe my attention span got shorter thanks to the TikTok age of fast-paced consumption, maybe I spent too long with too few full albums, or maybe I'm becoming more critical somehow. Whatever the case, I'm trying not to criticize the way I listen, and I still came away with many albums that I loved all the way through.
I feel like I still have a million albums to listen to from this year, but instead of trying to squeeze them all in (and give them half-assed, rushed listens), I want to focus on the ones I can genuinely say I spent some time with and got know & love. I'm going to write about my number one favorite album of the year tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are the rest of the albums that stood out to me in 2022. I wrote about releases from friends yesterday, so the following list won't include those (even though they are all spectacular releases that I adored).
